Twelve men were sent to spy the land of Canaan by Moses. Ten of the spies discouraged the people from going into the land by their unbelief though they acknowledged that the land flowed with milk and honey. They focused on the physical barriers and obstacles rather than trusting in God’s promises. However, Caleb and Joshua viewed the situation differently. Caleb demonstrated absolute faith in God and His promises and encouraged the people to do same. The Lord blessed him for his unwavering faith and loyalty. In this study, we shall examine the life of Caleb the son of Jephuneh with a view to drawing lessons for our day to day living.

1 .) Who is Caleb the son of Jephuneh? Num. 13:3, 5, 26 – 31, 14:6 – 9; Josh. 14:6 – 12.

2.) What made Caleb different from the rest of the spies? Josh. 14:7–8; Num. 13:30, 14:9,24.

3 .) How does perspective affect our response to challenges of life? Num. 13:30 – 33, 14:6 – 8; 1Sam. 17:33 – 37.

4.) Discuss the result of Caleb’s unwavering faith in God. Num. 14:24, 28-30; Josh. 14:9-14.

5 .) Why do some believers easily give up in the face of challenges? Num. 13:26-29, 31-33, 14:9.

6.) How can we maintain a steady walk with God irrespective of times and circumstances? 2Cor. 5:7; Prov. 3:5-7; Phil. 4:6-7.

As the disobedience of the entire nation could not derail the promise of God to faithful Caleb, so also shall God’s promises to you be fulfilled as you remain faithful.

MEMORY VERSE: “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed me fully, i will bring him to the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” Num. 14:21.
